Japan Boycott Movement Spreads…Travel Industry on Alert

[News S= Reporter Kim A-hyun] A boycott movement against Japanese products is spreading.
Monami and Morning Glory are emerging as beneficiaries of the boycott campaign.
Domestic stationery companies such as Monami and Morning Glory have failed to generate significant profits despite their superior quality, as they have been overshadowed by Japanese writing instruments.
Monami closed trading at the daily limit of 3,325 won, up 29%.
Meanwhile, the travel industry, which has a high proportion of Japanese products, is expressing concerns about deteriorating performance, prompting the travel sector to remain vigilant.
According to the Korea Tourism Organization and Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), out of 28.69 million outbound travelers last year, approximately 7.53 million visited Japan.
While it was initially projected that this travel trend would continue this year, a sudden deterioration in Korea-Japan relations is acting as a variable. Among some individual travelers, Japan travel cancellations and tourism product boycotts are underway.
One travel industry official said, "Despite political and diplomatic friction, Japan travel demand has never shown negative growth, but we are reviewing ways to expand routes to China and Southeast Asia while monitoring the situation."
