Icheon, Yeoju, and Yangpyeong Women's Reserve Forces Unit Marks 20th Anniversary
[News S=Reporter Eom In-yong] The Icheon, Yeoju, and Yangpyeong women's reserve forces unit, representing "guardians of national security" for Icheon City, Yeoju City, and Yangpyeong County, marked its 20th anniversary on the 24th.
Since its establishment in 2006 with an initial 50 members each under Army 55th Division in Icheon, Yeoju, and Yangpyeong, the women's reserve forces unit has participated in disaster and emergency relief operations, social service activities, and operational plan training throughout the region.
Over the past 20 years, the unit has consistently practiced dedication to the local community and patriotism, complementing constraints in regional defense operations during peacetime and wartime, fostering harmony with residents, and enhancing public trust in the military.
In commemoration of its 20th anniversary, the Icheon women's reserve forces unit held a commemorative ceremony at the Icheon Battalion with approximately 60 attendees, including battalion and Icheon City Hall officials and members of the Korean Veterans Association. The event included presentation of commendation certificates and letters of appreciation to those with distinguished service, video viewing of women's reserve forces activities and congratulatory messages from the Icheon mayor, and commemorative remarks.
Kim Jeong-sik, commander of the Icheon women's reserve forces unit, stated, "As a member of the women's reserve forces, I have been committed to contributing to national security and the local community," adding, "If there are opportunities to serve the nation and residents in the years ahead, leading up to our 30th and 40th anniversaries, I am resolved to respond at any moment with the determination that I will protect my hometown."
Battalion Commander Lee Rang (Lieutenant Colonel) said, "Women's reserve forces play important roles including disaster and emergency relief during peacetime, social service, situation communication in times of emergency, mobile public relations, and damage recovery support," and added, "In a situation where the role of reserve forces is becoming increasingly important, we will spare no effort in providing support to enable the women's reserve forces unit to carry out its practical missions."
