Council Member Moon Eun-young of Guri Presents Political Philosophy and Direction for Local Assembly at First Interim Session
[News S=Reporter Eom In-yong] Council Member Moon Eun-young of Guri City Council presented her political philosophy and the direction that local assemblies should pursue through a 5-minute free speech at the first interim session of the 10th Guri City Council held on the 29th.
This speech is particularly significant as it represents the first message promising the council's role and responsibility to citizens at the start of a new chapter for the 10th Guri City Council, rather than addressing individual issues.
Council Member Moon emphasized that "politics is about making citizens' daily lives a little safer and warmer," stating that the reason for the existence of local assemblies lies in changing citizens' lives.
She also clearly stated that as Guri City faces a new turning point with the development of the Topyeong 2 public housing district, redevelopment and reconstruction, and expansion of metropolitan transportation networks, the city's competitiveness should be evaluated not by the scale of development but by the quality of citizens' lives.
To achieve this, she presented three principles that local assemblies must uphold to regain citizens' trust: "studying council members," "council members who visit the field first," and "assemblies created together with citizens."
She further proposed, "The assembly should be a space for creating solutions, not for amplifying conflicts," and "Let us build an assembly that cooperates beyond political party lines and ideological differences to achieve the common goal of citizens' happiness."
Additionally, she pledged, "Change in Guri begins with change in the assembly," and "We will continue to create an assembly that works with citizens through policies that change citizens' lives and legislative activities that prepare for the future."
Meanwhile, Council Member Moon has established herself as a political expert, holding a Ph.D. in Political Science from Konkuk University and serving as vice president of the Korean Local Council Studies Association, as well as (former) assistant professor at Konkuk University's Civil Politics Research Institute and (former) full-time professor at the Central Election Management Commission's Election Training Institute.
