[News S=Reporter Cheon Ui-hyeon] Gyeonggi Province announced on the 3rd that it has issued the second malaria alert of the year in Gimpo City.

The alert was issued following the first cluster case of malaria detected in Gimpo City after the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency issued a nationwide malaria caution on June 22. A cluster case is defined as the occurrence of two or more patients in a malaria risk area within a 14-day interval and within 1 kilometer of their residences.

The province previously issued the year's first malaria alert in Paju City on the 9th of last month.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's infectious disease portal, as of this day, there have been 230 reported malaria cases nationwide this year, of which Gyeonggi Province accounts for 124 cases, representing approximately 53.9% of the national total.

Yoo Young-chul, head of the Gyeonggi Province Health and Wellness Bureau, said, "Residents and visitors in risk areas must adhere to mosquito prevention measures and undergo prompt testing if they develop suspected symptoms."
