The Gyeonggi Province Disabled Sports Association announced that it will hold the '20th Gyeonggi Province Disabled Living Sports Games 2026 Gapyeong' for two days from the 28th to the 29th in Gapyeong County.

A total of 4,276 participants, including 1,957 athletes from 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province, along with officials and guardians, will compete in 19 events including gateball.

The opening ceremony will be held on the 28th at the outdoor stage on Jara Island's West Island in Gapyeong County. Governor Choo Mi-ae of Gyeonggi Province, along with key figures from the province, provincial council, cities and counties, and athlete delegations—approximately 3,000 people in total—are expected to attend. The opening ceremony will feature official proceedings including athlete delegations' entrance, flag-raising, and welcome remarks, as well as diverse cultural events such as experience and promotional booths and congratulatory performances.

The Gyeonggi Province Disabled Sports Association and Gapyeong County are putting all efforts into safety management to prepare for extreme heat, including expanding rest times for outdoor events and operating air-conditioned buses and heat relief shelters.

Baek Kyung-yeol, executive director of the Gyeonggi Province Disabled Sports Association, said, "We will do our best to ensure this games will be remembered as a healthy event where participant safety is the top priority."
