Gwacheon City Requests Educational Structure Improvement and School Choice Guarantee from Gyeonggi Province Office of Education

Gwacheon City attended a pre-breakfast roundtable discussion held on the 24th at Ansan Office of Education to promote the 'Breaking Down Barriers Policy Agreement' led by Gyeonggi Province Office of Education.

This roundtable was organized to closely discuss locally-tailored educational cooperation tasks between local governments and the provincial education office ahead of the scheduled signing of the 'Breaking Down Barriers Policy Agreement' between Gyeonggi Province, 31 cities and counties, and Gyeonggi Province Office of Education in September.

Prior to the breakfast roundtable, Mayor Shin Gye-yong of Gwacheon City directly delivered the 'Gwacheon City Educational Structure Improvement Implementation Proposal' to Superintendent of Education An Min-seok to normalize Gwacheon's educational structure. He requested the establishment of a 2027 student placement plan that guarantees school choice rights for Gwacheon students and reflects their preferences.

He also reiterated requests for review and implementation of the results from the educational structure improvement research project conducted in Gwacheon City last year.

Mayor Shin Gye-yong stated, “I hope the education office will make a prompt decision, understanding the urgent concerns of parents and students in Gwacheon City, and Gwacheon City will actively cooperate with any support needed,”
