'Korea's Longest 65m' Safety Inspection of Escalators at Guri Station on Line 8

On the 25th, Gyeonggi Province conducted a joint on-site inspection with relevant agencies at the construction site of Guri Station on the Seoul Metro Line 8 extension (Byeolnae Line) located in Inchang-dong, Guri City to verify escalator operations and countermeasures for preventing safety accidents.

Eight officials participated in the inspection, including Kim Gyu-sik, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Safety Management Office, the Director of Urban Development and Transportation of Guri City, the Director of the Gyeonggi Northern Branch of Korea Elevator Safety Corporation, and the Station Master of Guri Station at Guri Metropolitan Corporation.

The escalators installed in the transfer corridor of Guri Station on Line 8 are the longest escalators in a domestic subway station, measuring 65 meters in length and 30 meters in vertical height.

Gyeonggi Province focused on checking whether safety management guidance signs for elevators were clearly visible and properly attached so that passengers could clearly understand safety guidelines. The province also inspected the status of safety management personnel deployed on-site to prepare for concentrated usage during rush hours and examined whether rapid response could be achieved in emergency situations.

Kim Gyu-sik, Director of the Safety Management Office, stated, "Given that Guri Station's escalators boast Korea's longest length, clear guidance on proper usage and timely deployment of on-site safety personnel are key to preventing safety accidents," and added, "Please actively coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure necessary safety personnel are appropriately deployed, and thoroughly implement education and management for on-site workers."
