Gyeonggi Province Expands Support for 'Reading Stay' Program that Began at 'Lalalala House Bookstore'

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 28th that it operates a 'Reading Stay' program that allows outstanding readers in the region to enjoy reading and cultural experiences together at distinctive local bookstores in the area.

Reading Stay is part of Gyeonggi Province's outreach reading culture project 'Reading ON Gyeonggi,' and eligible participants include outstanding readers recommended by municipal public libraries, volunteer workers, and superior reading clubs selected by Gyeonggi Province.

The program began for the first time on the 25th at 'Lalalala House Bookstore' located in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon. Members of Suwon's outstanding reading clubs participated in singing bowl meditation and healing writing programs, experiencing both books and rest together.

On the 29th, in connection with Icheon City Library, a program titled 'First Meeting Confession' focused on first editions and inaugural issues will be held at 'First Bookstore' in Moga-myeon, Icheon. Participants will read classics together, share stories, and have an opportunity to directly examine first editions.

The province plans to sequentially operate reading stays in connection with municipal public libraries and local reading spaces through November of this year.

Yoon Myung-hee, director of Gyeonggi Provincial Library, stated, "It is deeply meaningful that public libraries and local bookstores join hands to revitalize the reading culture ecosystem," and added, "We will continue to expand cooperation with various reading culture institutions in the region and create a culture of coexistence with local reading spaces."
