Yeoncheon County Welcomes Government Confirmation of Amicheon Multi-Purpose Dam Construction

Yeoncheon County announced on the 27th that it actively welcomes the confirmation of the Amicheon Multi-Purpose Dam construction plan announced by the Ministry of Climate Energy and Environment.

The Amicheon Dam will be constructed as a multi-purpose dam to prevent flooding damage in Yeoncheon while addressing water demand in the Imjin River basin areas, including Yeoncheon and Paju, which lack independent water sources.

Once completed, the dam will be able to supply 80,000 tons of water per day to the Imjin River basin, and the county is expected to acquire defense capabilities to cope with 100-year-frequency floods.

Local residents said, "We have always been worried about flooding damage during heavy downpours, and we are very pleased," and "We hope the follow-up procedures proceed quickly and a safe living environment is established as soon as possible."

County Governor Kim Deok-hyeon said, "This is an important turning point in protecting the lives and property of county residents and securing a stable water source," and "I hope the follow-up procedures are implemented swiftly." He added, "We will closely cooperate with related agencies to ensure that residents' opinions are sufficiently reflected in the project plan."
