Kim Seung-won Nominated as Justice Minister Candidate

Kim Seung-won (57), a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker representing Suwon A, has been nominated as the Justice Minister candidate. President Lee Jae-myung announced on the 30th the nomination of Lawmaker Kim as the successor candidate to former Justice Minister Jung Seong-ho, along with announcing minister candidates for six ministries and Presidential Office appointments.

Candidate Kim was born in Suwon in 1969 and graduated from Susong High School and Seoul National University's Department of Public Law. As a member of the 28th Judicial Research and Training Institute, he served as a judge at the Suwon District Court, and subsequently worked as an administrative official at the Presidential Secretariat's Political Affairs Office before serving as a member of the 21st and 22nd National Assemblies. He currently serves as secretary of the National Assembly's Legislative and Judicial Committee. If he passes the confirmation hearing, he will be appointed as minister.

The list of cabinet changes announced that day includes candidates Lee Hyung-il for Vice Minister of Finance and Economy, Kang Shin-chul for Defense Minister, Yong Hye-in for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, Hong Ji-seon for Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Lee So-young for Minister of SMEs and Startups.
