Jazz Takes Over Haengung-dong Alleyways in Suwon
For four days beginning September 4, the alleyways of Haengung-dong in Suwon will transform into a charming outdoor jazz club.
Suwon Special City (Mayor Lee Jae-joon) will host the '2026 Suwon Jazz Fringe Festa' in the Haengung-dong area from September 4-6. Jazz musician performances will take place at eight locations throughout Haengung-dong, including the outer courtyard of Hwahwa Pavilion at Hwaseong Haenggung Palace. All performances are free to watch.
The Suwon Jazz Fringe Festa will feature 18 domestic jazz artists over the three days. The event includes main stage performances featuring the BMK Jazz Band and others, street jazz and marching band performances utilizing alleyways throughout Haengung-dong as stages, and a Rising Star competition featuring jazz musicians selected through nationwide auditions. The main stage is located at the outer courtyard of Hwahwa Pavilion at Hwaseong Haenggung Palace.
On September 4 at 7 p.m., the main stage will kick off with performances by the Kim Soo-hwan Band and the Yoon Deok-hyun Band.
On September 5, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., performances by 10 jazz musicians including the BMK Jazz Band, Kim Soon-young Jazz Tap Band, and Lee Kang-seok Trio will take place at the main stage and seven other performance venues throughout Haengung-dong.
On September 6, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., six bands including Ssowat Nolla, No Ye Duo, and Choi Hee-young Rising Band will perform. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the main stage will host 'Fringe Night,' a competition stage for rising stars.
Four teams that advanced through preliminary rounds will compete in the finals. The winning team will be given the opportunity to perform on the stage of the 2026 Suwon Jazz Festival (September 18-19).
A Suwon City official stated, "We hope families, friends, and couples will casually stroll through Haengung-dong and enjoy the jazz performances unfolding throughout the alleyways," adding, "You will be able to experience the special joy that jazz brings."
