Gwangmyeong Mayor Park Seung-won Elected Standing Representative of 9th Term Mokmingwan Club

Gwangmyeong Mayor Park Seung-won was unanimously elected as the new standing representative at the '9th Term Mokmingwan Club Inaugural Ceremony and Commemorative Seminar' held at L7 Gwangmyeong by Lotte Hotel in the afternoon of the 4th.

The 'Mokmingwan Club' is an association of local government heads dedicated to sustainable regional development and the realization of grassroots democracy, and was established in 2010.

The club has held regular forums and seminars with agendas including response to regional decline, community asset development, expansion of solidarity economy, and participation and governance, sharing best practices and on-site regional experiences of local governments while seeking common solutions to enhance local autonomy and strengthen the competitiveness of local governments.

For the 9th term, 35 local government heads from across the nation participate as members.

Mayor Park emphasized the role of local governments, stating, "Issues that touch citizens' lives—stagnant local economies, population decline, regional collapse, climate crisis, and gaps in care services—are becoming increasingly complex," adding, "Local governments are where problems can be discovered closest to citizens and where change can begin first."

The event was held in the form of an inaugural ceremony marking the start of the 9th Term Mokmingwan Club, election of officers, and a commemorative seminar with the theme 'Innovation Created by Local Governments in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI).' At the event, local government heads from various regions shared their core visions and strategies for the 9th term.

Mayor Park particularly presented a vision to create a 'constitution-friendly city' where constitutional values take root in administration and citizens' daily lives, and to robustly guarantee fundamental rights throughout people's lifespans in care, housing, environment, education, and transportation.
