Comfortable Waiting Despite Heat Waves and Cold Spells...9 'Climate Shelter-Type Smart Bus Stops' Installed
Suwon Special City (Mayor Lee Jae-jun) has installed 9 climate shelter-type smart bus stops in areas including Gosaeok-dong, Homaesil-dong, Omokcheon-dong, and Tap-dong in Gwonseon-gu as part of the 'Carbon Neutral Green City Development Project,' which is being promoted as a public invitation project by the Ministry of Climate Energy and Environment.
The smart bus stops are improved public transit facilities that help citizens use public transportation safely and comfortably while responding to abnormal weather such as heat waves, cold spells, and fine dust. Four expandable exterior-type stops and five basic-type stops have been installed.
The bus stops are equipped with functions including △solar power generation △heating and cooling facilities △fine dust measurement and air purification △heated seats △climate information displays △public transit information provision △mobile phone charging △public Wi-Fi. Real-time closed-circuit television (CCTV) and emergency bells have also been installed to enhance safety.
Electricity generated by the solar power generation facility is used to operate bus stop facilities including heating and cooling systems, electronic displays, and LED lighting. Suwon City plans to reduce energy consumption and improve the public transportation environment to expand the foundation for carbon-neutral practices.
By 2027, the smart bus stops are planned to be linked with the 'Suwon Carbon Neutral Green City Integrated Platform.' Using the platform, the city plans to check energy status such as solar power generation and electricity consumption as well as facility operation information at a glance, and to manage the smart bus stops more systematically.
A Suwon City official said, "Climate shelter-type smart bus stops are life-oriented carbon-neutral facilities that help citizens respond to climate change in their daily lives," adding, "We will continue to expand eco-friendly and smart city infrastructure that citizens can feel."
