President Lee Rejects Constitutional Amendment and Reelection Talk Again…"I will absolutely not exceed June 2, 2030"
President Lee Jae-myung, who is on a state visit to Mexico, met with local compatriots on the 24th (local time) and once again rejected suggestions of constitutional amendment and reelection possibilities, stating that "I will absolutely not go beyond June 2, 2030" regarding his presidential term.
The president attended a compatriot forum held at a hotel in Mexico City on the afternoon of the 24th, saying "So that all of you will not worry about the Republic of Korea, I will ensure that at least during my term, the Republic of Korea takes good care of our compatriots," thereby clarifying his stance.
The president continued, "I will absolutely not exceed June 2, 2030, so I hope anyone who may be concerned about such matters will rest assured," clearly demonstrating his commitment to respecting the constitutional term limit.
This statement is interpreted as directly blocking speculation in political circles about extending the presidential term, while expressing strong determination to complete major state reform tasks within his designated term without delay. The president emphasized that he will concentrate government capabilities on achieving results within the limited timeframe and make every effort to improve the welfare of overseas Koreans and strengthen substantive cooperation between the two nations.
