Gyeonggi Province announced on the 27th that it has secured 12.3 billion won in national funding as a result of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's selection of the 2027 Development Restriction Zone Resident Support Project. This represents an increase of approximately 3.1 billion won (33.3%) from this year and is the largest amount among 14 cities and provinces nationwide that manage development restriction zones.

The 12.3 billion won secured by the province accounts for 23% of the approximately 53.9 billion won in nationwide development restriction zone resident support project budget for next year. Despite expectations that nationwide project funding will decrease by 6.6% from this year, Gyeonggi Province's allocated amount has actually increased.

To secure national funding, the province continuously recommended to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport an expansion of national funding allocation, citing factors such as the scale of Gyeonggi Province's collection of conservation contribution fees collected during the process of lifting and developing development restriction zones. In particular, the province significantly reduced disadvantages resulting from the abolishment, modification, and carryover of existing projects compared to the previous year, and actively discovered and applied for environmental and cultural projects such as Nuri-gil walking trails and leisure green spaces selected through national funding applications, in response to the expansion of national funding allocation.

The secured budget will be allocated to 13 cities and counties including Goyang, Gwangju, Gunpo, Namyangju, Bucheon, Suwon, Siheung, Ansan, Yangpyeong, Uiwang, Uijeongbu, Hanam, and Hwaseong, which manage development restriction zones. It is planned to be invested in improvements to basic living facilities such as road and stream maintenance, and environmental and cultural projects such as Nuri-gil trails and leisure green spaces.

The Development Restriction Zone Resident Support Project is an initiative to support residents who face inconveniences in their daily lives due to the designation of development restriction zones. Its purpose is to reduce residents' living inconvenience and improve welfare by maintaining basic living facilities such as roads and streams and creating Nuri-gil trails and leisure green spaces.

Kim Soo-hyung, director of the Regional Policy Division at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "It is significant that we increased Gyeonggi Province's allocation despite the national resident support project budget decreasing," and added, "We will ensure the secured budget is used to substantially reduce the living inconvenience of residents in development restriction zones by pushing forward projects without delay, and will do our best to secure national funding through recommendations for system improvements and other measures."
