A completion ceremony for the artificial intelligence (AI) smart crosswalk and yellow carpet project was held at Baekam Elementary School in Baekam-myeon, Cheogin-gu, Yongin Special City.

The completion ceremony held at the site on the 22nd was attended by Hwang Jun-gi, Vice Mayor of Yongin Special City, Jang Han-gyu, Vice President of SK Eco Plant, Park Chan-gyeong, Director of Green Umbrella's Social Contribution Cooperation Division, and Lee Kyung-ho, Principal of Baekam Elementary School.

The project was established to create a safe school commute environment for children and other mobility-disadvantaged groups through social contribution activities by SK Eco Plant and Green Umbrella and cooperation with the local community. In July, Yongin Special City and the two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the project.

SK Eco Plant, as part of its social contribution activities, built an advanced traffic system to respond to increased vehicle traffic in the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex, enabling both children and drivers to easily understand traffic conditions.

The AI smart crosswalk installed at Baekam Elementary School is a traffic facility that uses video analysis and traffic safety technology to analyze the movements of pedestrians and vehicles, pedestrian signals, and surrounding conditions in real time.

The yellow carpet is a facility that marks the floor and walls at the entrance of the crosswalk in yellow or installs yellow structures to guide children to wait for signals in a safe space.

Park Chan-gyeong, Director of Green Umbrella's Social Contribution Cooperation Division, stated, "A safe school commute route for children is the most fundamental environment for protecting everyday life," and added, "We will create an environment where children can grow up safely and healthily."

Jang Han-gyu, Vice President of SK Eco Plant, said, "We hope this project will create an environment where children can commute to school more safely," and stated, "We will continue to cooperate with the local community and pursue social contribution activities for children's traffic safety and future generations."

Hwang Jun-gi, Vice Mayor of Yongin Special City, said, "We expect the installation of advanced traffic safety facilities through this cooperation to greatly contribute to securing pedestrian safety for children around Baekam Elementary School and preventing traffic accidents."
