Efforts to revive the economic boom of Singal Intersection in Giheung-gu, Yongin City, a transportation hub connecting Yongin and Suwon with the Gyeongbu Expressway passing nearby, are becoming visible.

Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) held the "2026 Singal Intersection Urban Regeneration Street Festival" in the Singalcheon area (between Giheung Bridge and Galcheon Bridge) on the 24th. Reflecting citizens' interest, the festival drew approximately 23,000 visitors and was a great success.

Organized by Yongin Special City and hosted by the Yongin Culture Foundation and Singal Urban Regeneration On-Site Support Center, the festival was promoted as part of the "Singal Intersection Urban Regeneration Activation Project" to breathe new vitality into the Singal Intersection area.

Along with explanations of ongoing projects such as the shared platform and Gwangok Village Silver Care Center, participants shared the significance of urban regeneration and showed support for the purpose of creating Singal Intersection's unique identity and revitalizing the local commercial area.

The most eye-catching event at the festival was the lion mask street parade performance by "Korean Music Inside," a village community for Singal Intersection urban regeneration.

The lion mask street parade is a folk play performed throughout Yongin, and the city plans to restore it through the Singal Intersection urban regeneration project and revive it as a culturally specialized content unique to the region.

In particular, "Singal Imdam" and "Galnae Village Docent," village communities for Singal Intersection urban regeneration, provided diverse experiential opportunities including crafts, making, and coloring activities, showcasing citizens leading the initiative proactively.

Content operated by the Yongin Culture Foundation including ▲"Art Runner," an outreach cultural arts program ▲busking performances by artists such as "I'm Busker" and "Youth Busker" ▲collaborative creative art walls with the Children's Day Multi-cooperative ▲"Giant Baekdu," a giant puppet performance, and other diverse citizen participation content also proved popular.

Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, "For the development of Singal, the gateway to Yongin, the city is investing approximately 56 billion won in various projects," and emphasized, "This December, we will break ground on the Sharing Platform, a complex community facility for citizens, with an investment of approximately 20 billion won, which will feature residential complex shared spaces and a commercial revitalization center."

The city has been implementing an urban regeneration project to improve residential, living, and commercial environments in the Singal Intersection area since the "Singal Intersection Urban Regeneration Project" was selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's urban regeneration project in 2020.
