Weather Cold Air Mass Moves South Again from Tonight…Wednesday Morning in Seoul Reaches 2°C for 'Severe Cold'
Cold air from the northwest will push southward again from the evening of the 27th, and Wednesday morning on the 28th is forecast to bring the coldest weather of the autumn so far, with temperatures in Seoul and Suwon dropping to 2°C.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, conditions throughout the nation will remain mostly clear with temperatures near normal until tomorrow afternoon with mild conditions; however, cold air will flow strongly southward from tonight, causing temperatures to plummet rapidly.
In particular, the Capital Region and inland Gyeonggi areas are forecast to experience large temperature drops. Wednesday morning (28th) minimum temperatures in major regions are as follows: ▲Seoul 2°C ▲Suwon 2°C ▲Incheon 3°C ▲Paju -2°C ▲Yeoncheon -3°C ▲Gapyeong -1°C—with southern Gyeonggi dropping to around 2°C and northern and eastern Gyeonggi dipping into sub-zero ranges. Strong cold winds will accompany this, and most commuters in the Capital Region are expected to experience wind-chill temperatures in the sub-zero range.
Wednesday daytime highs will remain at ▲Seoul 12°C ▲Suwon 13°C ▲Incheon 12°C ▲Paju 11°C, keeping conditions chilly throughout the day as well.
This cold spell will peak Wednesday morning, then gradually return to normal temperatures from Thursday onward; however, cool transitional season weather is forecast to persist mornings and evenings for the time being.
[Daily Cold Wave Response Guide] "Here's How to Prepare for This Sudden Severe Cold"
When rapid temperature drops accompany strong cold winds, careful preparation in daily life is essential.
• Maintain body temperature and bring winter accessories (cope with wind-chill)
Layering with multiple thin garments is more effective for warmth than wearing one thick piece. On Wednesday's commute, strong winds will drive wind-chill temperatures into sub-zero ranges, so when going outside, bring scarves, gloves, hats and other winter accessories to cover exposed areas such as the neck and hands.
• Cardiovascular disease prevention and seasonal health management
When temperatures drop rapidly, blood vessels constrict and blood pressure risks rise. Elderly individuals and those with cardiovascular disease should refrain from outdoor exercise Wednesday morning and take care to avoid sudden exposure to cold air when going outside.
• Prevent cold damage and frost injury to crops during harvest season
In northern Gyeonggi and inland Gangwon areas where sub-zero temperatures and frost are expected, measures such as placing protective covers or pre-checking heating facilities are necessary to prevent harvest-season crops from sustaining cold damage.
• Fire prevention when using heating devices
As this period of sudden cold sees surging use of electric heating pads, heaters and other warming appliances, check the condition of electrical cords on older heating devices and remove dust around plugs to prevent fire accidents.
