News S Welcomes Political Cartoonist Choi Min as New Columnist
News S has welcomed Choi Min (Chairman of the National Association of Political Cartoonists), one of Korea's leading political cartoonists, as a new serializing columnist. Cartoonist Choi Min began his career as a political cartoonist in 1987 and has serialized works in numerous media outlets including Jungbu Ilbo, Ilgan Oneul, IT Daily, Wolgan Mal, and Cartoon Journal Newstoon. In 2013, his work was published in the prestigious French daily newspaper Le Monde. He currently serializes 'Choi Min's Political Cartoon Commentary' in Minjoong Ilshinmun.
He has devoted himself to promoting the social value of political cartoons and establishing the historical authenticity of Korean comics. He led the establishment of 'Political Cartoon Day (June 2)' and promoted the installation of a memorial monument marking the birthplace of Korean comics as well as Korea's 100th anniversary of comics projects. He serves as representative of the International Forum for Editorial Cartooning (IFEC) and the Korea-France Cultural and Art Forum, Korea Cartoon for Peace, and also serves as an operating committee member of the Bucheon International Comics Festival and chairperson of the International Comics Art Festival.
He has also taken the lead in international exchanges. He has signed memoranda of understanding with France's International Political Cartoon Salon and Poland's Legnica Cultural Center, and has invited overseas figures including the chairman of the American Association of Political Cartoonists and writers from Le Monde to Korea. Since 2009, he has been invited annually to France's 'International Political Cartoon and Humor Salon' as a representative Korean artist.
He is also active as an exhibition curator. In addition to exhibitions such as 'Peace on the Korean Peninsula and Independence Movement' at the Saint-Brieuc Municipal Art Museum in France and the 'Korean Wave Cartoon Concert' in Nantes, he has presented numerous domestically held exhibitions with social messages including 'Dokdo Comic Journey,' 'Drawing 4.3 and the Era,' and 'Universal Basic Income Cartoon.' He has received this year's Political Cartoon Award, the Lee Do-yeong Political Cartoon Award, and the 11th Korea Economic Culture Award. His publications include 'Political Cartoons of Satire, Wit, and Hope.'
