Gyeonggi Province Assembly's 12th Session Holds 'Integrity Pledge Ceremony for 2026'
[News S=Reporter Kim Gap-dong] The Gyeonggi Province Assembly (Speaker Nam Jong-seop) held an 'Integrity Pledge Ceremony for 2026 Integrity Enhancement' in the main chamber on the 23rd.
The integrity pledge ceremony was organized to solemnly acknowledge last year's results from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission's comprehensive integrity assessment, which placed the assembly in a lower-grade category, and to publicly declare, with the launch of the 12th session of the assembly, a commitment to transformation into a trustworthy and integrity-based legislature.
The ceremony proceeded with MC and actor Yu Seung-min, the assembly's public relations ambassador, presiding as Speaker Nam Jong-seop (Democratic Party, Yongin District 3) read the integrity pledge on behalf of the members, followed by attending members signing the pledge directly.
Subsequently, members held signs and participated in a performance chanting integrity slogans such as "We create an ethical assembly!" pledging fair and transparent parliamentary work.
The pledge included the following commitments: △compliance with regulations as representatives of citizens △prohibition of abuse of authority, conflicts of interest, and improper solicitations △elimination of acceptance of gifts and hospitality △maintenance of dignity and responsible conduct △exclusion of undue interference.
The pledge signed by members will be posted in each member's office and serve as a guideline for continuously reflecting on the value of integrity throughout their four-year term.
In relation to this, the assembly decided to strengthen anti-corruption and integrity education for members and staff to ensure that this pledge ceremony is not a one-time event.
Additionally, the assembly plans to meaningfully operate the conflict-of-interest prevention system and continuously implement various integrity measures for establishing public ethics and spreading a culture of integrity to achieve substantive improvement in integrity standards.
Speaker Nam Jong-seop stated, "I believed it was necessary to accept the previous results with gravity and reaffirm our commitment to transformation in the 12th assembly starting anew," adding, "Taking this pledge ceremony as an opportunity, all members of the 12th assembly will make integrity the top priority of parliamentary activities and will certainly restore citizens' trust."
