Hwaseong Special City Wins "Global City Brand Award" in the National Representative Economic Vitality City Category
Hwaseong Special City (Mayor Jung Myeong-keun) announced that it was selected and awarded in the "National Representative Economic Vitality City category" at the awards ceremony for the "4th 2026 Global City Brand Award" held at Ferrum Hall in Ferrum Tower, Jung-gu, Seoul on the 26th.
The "Global City Brand Award," hosted by Sisajournal and sponsored by the Korean Association for Local Governance, is an award that selects and honors superior local governments that have discovered cities' unique brands and contributed to balanced development and improved sustainable competitiveness.
Since launching the 8th elected term, Hwaseong Special City has intensively fostered future strategic industries including semiconductors, future mobility, and biotechnology. Based on this foundation, the city has achieved investment attraction of 26 trillion 957 billion won in total, surpassing its original target of 20 trillion won, and has led investments by major domestic and international companies such as ASML, ASM, Samsung Electronics, and Kia, establishing itself as a key hub of South Korea's advanced industries.
Additionally, the city has implemented the creation of the future-oriented industrial city "Hwaseong Technopol," designation of venture business promotion zones linked to strategic industries in the Dongtan area, establishment of one-stop investment support systems, and support for small and medium enterprises, startups, and exports, laying the foundation for a sustainable industrial ecosystem where businesses and talent grow together.
Based on the growth achievements of the 8th elected term, the city is pursuing the vision of "Greater Hwaseong for Everyone's Happiness" in the 9th elected term to realize "Greater Growth Happy Economy Special City." In particular, with the goal of becoming "South Korea's Number One Future Advanced City," the city plans to strengthen competitiveness in future industries by implementing core projects including the creation of an aerospace industry cluster hub, designation as an economic free zone, and the establishment of an artificial intelligence (AI) industry foundation.
