Rep. Sa Jeong-hui Calls for Gyeonggi Southern Metropolitan Railway Reflected in 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan and Suwon Attraction

Rep. Sa Jeong-hui of the Suwon Metropolitan City Council stated during the 5-minute free speech session at the first plenary session of the 404th temporary assembly held on September 1st, "I urge the inclusion of the Gyeonggi Southern Metropolitan Railway in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan and the attraction of the project to Suwon."

The Gyeonggi Southern Metropolitan Railway is a metropolitan railway project spanning approximately 50.7 kilometers that connects Seoul's Jamsil with Seongnam, Yongin, Suwon, and Hwaseong. It is considered a key infrastructure to address the demand for metropolitan transportation in the southern Seoul metropolitan area. It is also expected to play a role in connecting regions where future industries are concentrated, including Pangyo Techno Valley, Samsung Electronics, and the K-Semiconductor Belt.

Rep. Sa stated, "Suwon is a key city in the semiconductor industry, and given that the project has secured economic feasibility with a benefit-cost ratio (B/C) of 1.2, I request that Gyeonggi Province and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport be urged to consider attracting the project to Suwon."

Rep. Sa added, "Citizens' mobility is Suwon's competitiveness," and also proposed strengthening dedicated response systems, expanding specialized workforce, and establishing Sinmaetan Crossroads Station as a stop within Suwon, taking into account the transportation needs of residents in Maetan-dong.
