Yongin Special City Establishes Sister City Relationship with Jangheung-gun

Yongin Special City (Mayor Lee Sang-il) established a sister city relationship with Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam Province Gwangju Integrated Special City, on September 1st. Mayor Lee Sang-il attended the sister city agreement ceremony held at the Jangheung County Office and signed the agreement with County Administrator Sa Sun-moon.

Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, "I hope that with this agreement as an opportunity, Yongin Special City and Jangheung County will develop a closer relationship and grow together as two cities," and added, "Since last year, Yongin has launched the nation's first character festival, and with Jangheung County also participating with its representative character 'Uopyo,' I believe it would be great if we could cooperate while exchanging friendship with each other."

County Administrator Sa Sun-moon also said, "Although the two cities differ in scale and characteristics, I believe we can become good partners by sharing our respective strengths and helping each other," and added, "Jangheung County will do its best so that both cities can grow together as reliable sister cities."

After the agreement ceremony, the mayor inspected major facilities in Jangheung County, including Jangheung 126 Tower (Jeongnamjin Observation Deck) located directly south of Gwanghwamun in Seoul.

With the agreement between Yongin Special City and Jangheung County, Jangheung County has become the city's 17th sister city. According to the agreement, the two cities of Yongin and Jangheung will pursue exchanges and cooperation in culture, tourism, administration, and agriculture.

The two cities will explore mutual promotion of regional festivals and cultural events, tourist resources, exchanges of art troupes, youth friendly sports competitions and joint training, exchanges between youth training facilities, and exchanges of cultural, career guidance, and experiential programs in the culture, sports, and tourism sectors.

Additionally, as a result of the sister city relationship, Yongin Special City residents presenting their identification cards when visiting Jangheung County's 126 Tower, Water Science Museum, Astronomy Science Museum, Jangheung Cypress Forest Woodland, and Cypress Salt House will receive a 50% discount on admission.

Lodging fees at Jangheung Cypress Forest Woodland can also receive a 30% discount.

Mayor Lee Sang-il visited Hampyeong County on August 31st, the day before, and held a meeting with Hampyeong County Administrator Lee Nam-o to further invigorate exchanges and cooperation between the two cities.

During the meeting, Mayor Lee Sang-il shared with County Administrator Lee Nam-o experiences in industrial complex development necessary for Hampyeong County's plans to attract and nurture advanced industries such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI) centered around the Bitgreen National Industrial Complex.

The city is currently maintaining sister city relationships with 17 domestic cities, including Jangheung County, Jindo County, Yeongcheon City, Jeju City, Wando County, Sacheon City, Goseong County, Hampyeong County, Sokcho City, Danyang County, Jeonju City, Gwangyang City, Andong City, Goesan County, Ulleung County, Hwasun County, and Yangyang County. It has signed a friendly city exchange agreement with Pohang City.
