Hwaseong Special City Holds 'Suicide Prevention and Life Respect Committee'...Discussing Customized Regional Measures
Hwaseong Special City (Mayor Jung Myung-keun) held the '2026 Hwaseong City Suicide Prevention and Life Respect Committee' on September 1st at the situation room on the second floor of City Hall, reviewing the status of regional suicide prevention projects and discussing future implementation directions.
The committee was attended by 18 members of the life respect committee, comprised of experts from various fields including police, fire, education, and medical services, along with Mayor Jung Myung-keun as chair, and the heads of Hwaseong City's four district offices.
Participants shared information on Hwaseong City's suicide mortality status and suicide prevention project implementation for 2026, and exchanged opinions on suicide prevention measures and ways to foster a culture of life respect tailored to local circumstances.
Key agenda items included △provisional suicide mortality statistics for 2025 △establishment and operation of rural-type suicide prevention centers △current status of high-frequency suicide areas and follow-up response results, among others.
In particular, participants reviewed the direction of suicide prevention projects and effective response measures, and also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation systems among relevant agencies in the region.
The city plans to reflect opinions and advice from this committee in future suicide prevention projects and strengthen the suicide prevention system tailored to local characteristics.
Mayor Jung Myung-keun of Hwaseong Special City stated, "Since suicide results from complex interactions of societal structural factors and individual factors, it is important to have a system in which the local community responds together," and added, "We will carefully analyze suicide mortality status and regional characteristics, concretize necessary policies, and work with relevant agencies to divide roles and establish effective prevention measures."
