Suwon Hwaseong Unveiled Under Moonlight… '63rd Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival' Press Day Held
The '63rd Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival,' where the breath of the Joseon royal family and contemporary media art will harmonize, unveiled its key contents ahead of its opening.
Suwon City and the Suwon Foundation for Culture & Arts held a press day on the 29th in the area surrounding Haenggung Palace in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, where they demonstrated the festival's core concept and highlights of its representative night performance content. At the event, attended by major media outlets and cultural and arts professionals, newly developed programs blending the aesthetics of traditional heritage with contemporary direction were unveiled.
The demonstration featured water performances 'Seonyugmong (Boat Journey Dream)' unfolding against the night scenery of Banghwasuryu Pavilion and Yongyeon Lake, and an immersive night theatrical experience 'Time Travel - Haenggung Yahwa of That Day,' where audiences move through major buildings within Haenggung Palace. Additionally, an actor portraying King Jeongjo was present at the venue to convey messages about the festival's symbolic meaning and the contemporary reinterpretation of royal culture.
The 63rd Suwon Hwaseong Culture Festival this year will be held for 8 days from October 4-11 in the Suwon Hwaseong area including Haenggung Palace, Yeonmudae, and Banghwasuryu Pavilion, under the theme of 'New Light, Benevolent People,' a contemporary reinterpretation of King Jeongjo's spirit of compassion for the people.
On the opening day, October 4th, a large-scale 'Joint Reenactment of King Jeongjo's Royal Procession' will unfold as a grand procession from Changdeokgung Palace in Seoul through Suwon Hwaseong to Yungnyeongneung Tomb, and during the festival period, the major thematic performance 'Yajo (Night Drills),' featuring mounted martial arts and flame effects, will be staged on the special stage at Yeonmudae.
