Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il: "Will Build Multi-Purpose Cultural Center on Former Special Education School Site"
Yongin Special Charter City Mayor Lee Sang-il visited the Seongbok-dong Community Day event held on the 5th at the athletic field of Hyoja Elementary School in Seongbok-dong, Suji-gu, and made this statement while revealing the city's vision for the former special education school site.
The mayor said, "The city is drawing up a blueprint to establish a public multi-purpose cultural welfare center on the site so that citizens can use cultural, sports, and welfare facilities, and is currently researching ways to improve the project's economic feasibility. Regarding this site, my colleagues and I are doing our best to ensure that citizens are no longer given false hope, so I ask that citizens wait a bit longer," he said.
The mayor further emphasized that transportation network expansion plans to improve citizen mobility, including the Gyeonggi South Metropolitan Railway, the Shinbong-Dongbaek Line, and the Yongseong Expressway, are proceeding smoothly.
The mayor said, "We are working to incorporate the 'Gyeonggi South Metropolitan Railway New Construction Plan,' a project identified in the 8th civilian administration, into the 'Fifth National Railroad Network Construction Plan' to build rail connecting Seoul's Olympic Stadium through Shinbong and Seongbok in Suji-gu to Bongdam in Hwaseong. If this plan is pushed forward well, the economic feasibility of the 'Shinbong-Dongbaek Line' connecting Shinbong-dong through Seongbok-dong to Dongbaek and the 'Eonam-Dongcheon Line' connecting Eonam-dong through Mabuk and Jukjeon to Dongcheon-dong will increase, so I expect that citizens' transportation convenience will improve further," he said.
The mayor said, "The underground expressway construction of the Yongseong Expressway from Seosouji IC to Geumto is progressing well, and since Yongin is implementing a mega-scale semiconductor project well, I believe the possibility of railroad and road construction plans currently underway throughout the city is high. Building roads and railroads requires large costs and long periods of time, so there is still a long way to go, but I hope citizens will lend their support," he said.
The mayor presented Yongin City Mayor Commendations to three individuals, including Lee Ki-gon, the branch chairman of the Seongbok-dong Senior Citizens Association, in recognition of their contributions to the development of the local community.
At the event held for community harmony, many citizens participated in enjoying a bright athletic meet featuring color plate flipping and shoe archery, and responded enthusiastically to song classes and samulnori performances by members of the community self-governance center, spending a cheerful time.
At the event venue, various attractions were prepared, including a carbon neutrality experience booth from the Suji Environmental Center and a Suji acupuncture experience booth from the dong community autonomous committee, drawing citizens' attention.
