Mayor Park Seung-won of Gwangmyeong Takes Part in Relay Challenge for New Sincheon-Haan-Sillim Line
Mayor Park Seung-won of Gwangmyeong participated on the 27th in a citizen relay challenge expressing hope for the construction of the new Sincheon-Haan-Sillim Line at the postal office intersection in Haan-dong.
Mayor Park held a picket sign containing the message that the Sincheon-Haan-Sillim Line should be reflected in the Fifth National Railroad Network Construction Plan to realize balanced development across the Seoul metropolitan area.
The Sincheon-Haan-Sillim Line is a 16.4-kilometer metropolitan railway route connecting Sincheon Station in Siheung through the Gwangmyeong-Siheung third new city and Haan-dong in Gwangmyeong to Doksan and Sillim in Seoul.
The relay challenge began voluntarily on the 23rd when citizen members of the Pan-Citizen Promotion Committee for the Sincheon-Haan-Sillim Line at the Gwangmyeong City Hall lawn plaza and has continued since.
Designated by citizen members, Mayor Park participated as the second runner, and to expand joint responses from the four local governments the line will pass through, he designated Mayor Im Byeong-taek of Siheung, Head Choi Ki-chan of Geumcheon-gu Office in Seoul, and Head Park Jun-hee of Gwanak-gu Office in Seoul as the next runners.
Mayor Park stated, "The Sincheon-Haan-Sillim Line is an important route connecting Gwangmyeong, Siheung, and southwest Seoul that will reduce transportation inconvenience for citizens and enhance travel convenience between regions," and added, "I will work together with relevant local governments to make efforts for the new railway construction."
Gwangmyeong City is promoting the inclusion of the Sincheon-Haan-Sillim Line in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Fifth National Railroad Network Construction Plan, while also urging the prompt promotion of the 'Seoul Metropolitan Southwest Line Metropolitan Railway Private Investment Project (tentative name)' that includes the line.
The city met with the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in March and the Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in July to recommend project promotion, and in September held a pan-citizen rally of resolve and launched a signature campaign, delivering a signature petition with 15,990 citizens participating to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
