Emergency Medical System Strengthening Discussed for Densely Populated Dongtan Area

The Hwaseong Special City Dongtan-gu Health Center held a briefing on the 27th to strengthen the emergency medical system in the Dongtan area, where a large resident population requires rapid response to emergency situations.

Officials from emergency medical-related organizations including Dongtan-gu Office, Hwaseong Fire Department, and related emergency medical institutions in the district gathered to hold a "briefing on proper operation of the Dongtan area emergency medical system" and share opinions.

The Dongtan area has a large resident population, and when emergency situations occur, more than 40% of emergency patients are currently being transferred to nearby medical institutions in other regions.

Therefore, cooperation between emergency medical institutions is more important than ever. Accordingly, officials from Hwaseong Fire Department, Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital, Dongtan City Hospital, and institutions operating as Dongtan Holy Mother Hospital, Best Aisle Hospital, and Central Children's Hospital participated to share opinions.

Participating organizations discussed ▲alleviating the concentration of mild patients at large hospitals ▲establishing a cooperation system for timely treatment according to symptoms ▲rapid inter-facility patient referral and continuous information sharing methods.

Yu Jong-woo, Director of Dongtan-gu Health Center, stated, "The emergency medical system is important to clarify roles for each organization and cooperate to ensure rapid patient transfer and treatment appropriate to the patient's condition," adding "We will create a reliable emergency medical environment for citizens by sharing information among related organizations and inspecting the transfer and referral system."
