Suwon City Supports Installation of "AI-based Pedal Misoperation Prevention Devices" for Elderly Drivers

Suwon Special Wards City (Mayor Lee Jae-joon) is recruiting elderly drivers aged 65 and above to participate in the "AI-based Pedal Misoperation Prevention Device Installation Support Project" until September 14th.

The pedal misoperation prevention device is designed to prevent situations where drivers accidentally step on the accelerator pedal, causing the vehicle to suddenly accelerate. When abnormal rapid acceleration is detected during low-speed driving, the device restricts accelerator pedal operation and emits warning sounds.

Applicants must be actual drivers aged 65 and above with at least one year of residential registration in Suwon City as of the application date. Installation support will be provided for a total of 45 vehicles. The full installation cost of 440,000 won per vehicle will be covered, with no personal cost to the applicant.

The applicant and the actual driver of the vehicle must be the same person, and commercial vehicles are excluded from support. Installation of a smartphone app for effectiveness analysis and provision of driving records are required, so iPhone users cannot apply.

Supported vehicles must have a maximum load capacity of 1.4 tons or less and be capable of device installation. Installation eligibility may vary depending on vehicle model, age, and other factors, so applicants must verify that their vehicle is eligible before applying.

Applications can be submitted online through Suwon City's civic participation platform "Saebit Talktalk" or by visiting the Suwon City Hall Traffic Policy Division (401 Gyeongsu-daero, Paldal-gu, 2nd floor). Applicants must submit an application form, resident registration copy, vehicle registration certificate or vehicle registration details, and proof of driving experience.

Based on evaluation criteria, 45 selected applicants and 5 reserve applicants will be chosen in order of highest scores and notified individually. Selected drivers must install the device and are required to maintain installation for one year and cooperate in analyzing project effectiveness, including driving data collection.
