Chair of Parliamentary Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee Yu Ui-dong: "Housing Supply through Reconstruction and Redevelopment Important...Yongsan Value Must Be Considered"
Yu Ui-dong, Chair of the Parliamentary Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee (People Power Party, Pyeongtaek-si Eul), held a breakfast meeting with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon at Seoul City Hall on the 19th, discussing overall real estate issues including housing supply.
At the meeting, they examined the effectiveness and limitations of the government's announced housing supply measures and engaged in broad discussions on realistic alternatives that could lead to actual supply.
In particular, they reached consensus that to increase housing supply in Seoul and the metropolitan area, rather than relying solely on public-led initiatives, private redevelopment projects such as reconstruction and redevelopment should be activated to fully mobilize the private sector's supply capacity.
They also exchanged views on the issue of utilizing Yongsan Park, which the government is reviewing as an additional supply measure. They shared the view that the sustainable value of the area should be prioritized rather than focusing solely on the necessity of housing supply.
Chair Yu Ui-dong stated, "Housing supply measures should not stop at announcing numbers but must lead to actual construction and occupancy," and added, "The government should sufficiently reflect the voices of local residents and local governments rather than unilaterally determining supply methods."
He further noted, "As Chair of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, I will clearly point out problems with government measures and actively discuss necessary institutional improvements so that effective housing supply measures can be prepared that citizens can feel."
